A FRESH START FOR WOMEN RESCUED FROM THE SEX TRADE
As women work their way through the one year-long restorative program with our partner Ellilta - Women at Risk, they are trained in a trade or job that can be a viable alternative to their former life of prostitution. As each woman gets closer to graduation, they know they will depart the program with a skill that can generate income to support herself and her child(children). Staff social workers will follow-up with the women for 6 months after beginning their new job/ business.
The women come into the program in 2 groups of approximately 20. They overlap mid-year. Assuming 17-20 women complete the program, Arukah Global looks to fund at least one group of women. The average cost of business start-up is $250 per woman.
2022 funding objective B: $5000
Business start-up Fund: Business start-up cost for graduated women (average $250 per woman)
FOOD FOR MOTHERS AND CHILDREN
$25/mo Covers grocery costs for mothers(rescued from prostitution) and their children.
This is not only about survival, but helps these women from needing to go back to the sex trade in order to feed their children. The small businesses they started upon graduating the one year restoration program are not producing income in the midst of COVID-19.
Our partner, Ellilta, helps vulnerable women(and their children) exiting the sex-trade and walks them through a one year restoration process. Amongst other things this includes counseling, teaching on parenting, trade skills, physical and spiritual wholeness.
3. $100/month: Groceries for families being cared for by our partner, the CDTRC (Child Development Training and Research Center).
The CDTRC is the foremost child advocacy training organization in Ethiopia and helps 1000's of individuals raise up the next generation and to break the cycle of poverty. They currently have 80 families who's kids they educate and care for. We are looking to help them keep these families fed.
