HOW YOU CAN HELP DURING COVID-19
As COVID-19 spreads in developing countries with areas of dense, communal population and manual labor and daily visits to outdoor marketplaces are part of survival, it is expected that many people will be forced to decide between going out to make a few dollars - thus, risking exposure to the virus - or isolating at home and starving. Additionally, minimal access to water makes the simple act of hand washing very difficult...if not impossible.
In light of COVID-19, local funding in Ethiopia is drying up in an economy which has already been stressed - especially for those living in extreme poverty.
Below are several immediate & urgent needs with our 3 primary Ethiopian partners
1. $20-25/month: Covers grocery costs for mothers(rescued from prostitution) and their children.
This is not only about survival, but helps these women from needing to go back to the sex trade in order to feed their children. The small businesses they started upon graduating the one year restoration program are not producing income in the midst of COVID-19.
Our partner, Ellilta, helps vulnerable women(and their children) exiting the sex-trade and walks them through a one year restoration process. Amongst other things this includes counseling, teaching on parenting, trade skills, physical and spiritual wholeness.
2. $80-120/month: Staff salaries. The staff of Birhan Academy, Ellilta and the CDTRC work in very difficult circumstances as they educate and serve the most vulnerable women and children in the city of Nazret. These teachers, administrators, staff and counselors make an extremely modest salary - about $80-120 month...yet, they are as devoted and sacrificial as one can imagine.
Due to the shutdowns resulting from COVID-19, many teachers and non-profit employees are facing great uncertainty.
3. $100/month: Groceries for families being cared for by our partner, the CDTRC (Child Development Training and Research Center).
The CDTRC is the foremost child advocacy training organization in Ethiopia and helps 1000's of individuals raise up the next generation and to break the cycle of poverty. They currently have 80 families who's kids they educate and care for. We are looking to help them keep these families fed.
Thank you for your generosity...
